Okay, so I’m a little upset. They banned Facebook at work. I agree that Facebook, Perezhilton and other similar sites decrease productivity; however, this working girl needs to have breaks in the day to catch up on all the latest gossip. When I did have access to these sites, I wasn’t on them 24/7, but rather small increments, probably adding up to 15 minutes total, per day.
Why is it that smokers get to have multiple 15-minute breaks during the day? They’re participating in an unhealthy activity that decreases productivity each day. I’m sorry, but if they’re banning entertaining websites like Facebook and Perezhilton, they should ban smoke breaks.
My internet perusing doesn’t cause someone to get cancer, nor does it cause other people to stink. It’s a proven fact that smoking has caused people to get cancer from exposure to secondhand smoke. Also (I’m sorry smokers), but you smell horrible after you smoke and that smell tends to permeate throughout the office long after the actual act of smoking has taken place.
There used to be a smoke room in my building, albeit in the basement---but a designated room nonetheless for smokers. Luckily, within the past three years, lawmakers have banned smoking in bars, restaurants and work buildings throughout the state. The smokers have to smoke in the parking lot, which I still find annoying because I park there, which means I have to walk though clouds of smoke to and fro my vehicle.
Moral of my story: If they’re banning websites from work, they should be banning smoke breaks. I’m obviously not a smoker, so I’m very biased on this issue…but I’m just saying!
