This past weekend, my dear friend M got engaged. I’ve known M since the second grade. We’ve skied in Colorado together, gone to grade-school and high-school together, heck, we’ve even driven across the country together in her Toyota Corolla. I remember when I had a mouse in my apartment last year, I called her crying, and by the end of the conversation, I was laughing like crazy. Needless to say, we’ve been through a lot.
J and I were down in his hometown, IL this past weekend, and on Saturday night we went to mass with his family. Before I walked into the church, I had a text from my dad that said “You should call M.” Obviously I couldn’t call her because I was walking into the church and figured I would call her in an hour when the mass was over.
Well, after communion I peaked in my purse and noticed I had two missed calls from M. Obviously, she had something to tell me---and it was something important, hence two calls. When mass was over, I called her and got her voicemail. I then called her boyfriend (also a “J”) and said:
“HI J! Are congratulations in order?”
His response “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He could barley get the words out because he was laughing.
My response “What’s going on? I had two missed calls from M.”
J “I’m not sure. You’ll have to talk to her.”
Me “Okay put her on the phone ASAP!”
Well I finally talked w/ M and she confirmed the blissful news and gave me the 411 on her rock, the proposal, etc! I’m so excited for her to marry J. He’s such a great guy and they make a wonderful couple.
