When I was in high-school, I spent two weeks in Ireland. The trip holds many fond memories in my heart. Each of us paired with another student and stayed with a host family in Belfast for one week, and the following week was spent traveling the countryside on a bus tour.
My favorite memories from the trip are probably the time spent with the host family. One day as I was getting ready, I thought it would be a good idea to curl my hair. Not such a good idea.
Because of converter issues, smoke started streaming out of my hair. As I unwrapped my hair from the curling iron, I noticed small pieces falling to the floor.
The room smelled like burnt hair. To get rid of the smoke and the awful smell that permeated throughout the room, we (my friend M and I) hung the curling iron out the window.
Later that day, when we were about to run some errands, Eva (the host mother) noticed the curling iron hanging out the window. I don’t remember what transpired next, but I knew she wasn’t happy. It was raining and the rain probably soaked the room. I do vaguely remember blaming my friend M. Sorry M!
Despite my converter issues, I had a lovely time in Ireland. Visiting Giant’s Causeway, kissing the Blarney Stone and visiting Duncluce Castle (pictured) were amazing experiences---experiences that I'll never foreget.

I hope to go back to Ireland some day soon. In the interim, I’ll flaunt my heritage proudly. Luckily, my ADORABLE niece is beginning to flaunt here Irish heritage too---here’s a pic of her in her St. Patty’s Day outfit:
