5:30 a.m. – J woke up and discovered his eye was completely red. He told me that he thought he had pink eye.
My loving reaction “Who gets pink eye after grade school?” J reiterated that he knew it was pink eye. I decided to immediately call Urgent Care to find out what time they opened. Yes, I’m a dork that I have the phone number to my local Urgent Care programmed into my phone, but trust me---it’s come in handy more than once. The recording told me the office was scheduled to open at 8 a.m. I told J to set his alarm for 7:30, which would give us ample time to get there.
7:35 a.m. – I popped out of bed (I’m kind of a morning person) and told a sleepy J to wake up!
8:10 a.m. – We arrived to Urgent Care. Usually, if I’m sick and need to go there, I get there 5 minutes before it opens because it’s always a buffalo stampede to get in and see the doctor. Luckily not to many people were sick on V-Day and J saw the doctor shortly after our arrival.
8:30 a.m. – J was officially diagnosed with Pink Eye. I of course freaked out and worried that I was going to get it. We immediately rushed to Target to get his prescription.
8:45 – 10:45 a.m. – Due to the lack of communicative technology, Target didn’t receive J’s prescription. I LOVE Target, but I almost went postal from being stuck there for two hours. If you know me, you know my patience tolerance is non-existent. I’m working on this.
11 a.m. – Raced to my house, got ready and got our ski gear in order.
11:30 a.m. – Picked up my sister and her boyfriend and headed here for a ski day:

12:30 – 3:30 p.m. – Ski. The conditions were HORRIBLE, but we still had fun, UNTIL…
I fell. Let me start by saying I’ve been skiing 20+ years. I’m by no means a Pickaboo Street, but I think I’m fairly decent.
My sister A asked me to ski behind her. Well, she wasn’t skiing as fast as I would have liked, so I passed her. I didn’t do many turns towards the bottom of the hill so I had quite a bit of momentum. Her boyfriend was at the bottom and I planned to stop a couple of inches away from him and spray him with snow. Yeah, that didn’t work out how I had wanted it to.
When I turned to stop, my edge caught a patch of ice, and I completely bit it. My sister’s boyfriend had a look of horror on his face.
At first I started laughing, because I was so embarrassed. Not only did it happen in front of my sister’s boyfriend, but it also happened in front of the ski patrol lodge. I was mortified.
Sadly (or maybe a blessing in disguise), J was in the restroom and missed the whole thing. When he came back to the slopes, he saw me on the ground, and he told me to get up. He said “Why are you laying down? Get up, lets go ski!”
My response – “Um I think I might have done something to my arm.” At this point, I was crying because my arm was sore.
J couldn’t believe it. He knew that I was a decent skier and that I hadn’t fallen in a long time (I’m insanely cautious). My sisters call me “Cautious K.”
Once I got up from the ground, I grabbed my right arm and just knew something was wrong. Sadly, we had to cut our skiing trip short and headed home.
Part II to follow tomorrow.
