Trick or Treat

Halloween is one of my favorite times of year. When I was little, I loved getting all dressed up and trick or treating. I’d trick or treat around my neighborhood and then around my cousins neighborhood (to maximize my candy capacity). Once our pillowcases were filled to the brim with candy, we’d go back to my aunt and uncles house. They hosted a huge Halloween party for all the families in their neighborhood and we’d feast on hotdogs, hot chocolate, etc. I really hope someone carries that tradition on when I have kids, because I have such fond memories of those parties.

Living in Minnesota, the weather at the end of October is basically a crapshoot---one day it could be 65 degrees, and the next day it could be 20. Back in the day, my parents made my sisters and I wear big jackets under our costumes. Sometimes, we’d have to wear snowsuits, in fact, in ‘91, the Twin Cities had over 28 inches of snow drop from a single storm that started Halloween afternoon and lasted three days. The storm was dubbed the Halloween blizzard. Sadly, I only filled one fourth of my pillowcase that year.

Although I don’t trick or treat anymore (that stopped after 8th grade), I still like to dress up on Halloween. Here’s a picture of my friend Amy (Dorothy) and I (Cher) on Halloween three years ago:

And here's a picture of my sisters, mom and I dressed up on Halloween two years ago:

J and I were invited to three separate costume parties this weekend; however I think we’ll probably just attend one. He’s feeling a bit under the weather so I’m thinking we’ll just hand out candy on Halloween and then have dinner and watch a movie---maybe a scary movie. Saturday will be party day! My parents are hosting a costume party, so we’ll be attending that. They’ve invited over 50+ people, and costumes are required. I’ll be dressing as Wednesday Adams and J will be dressing as her brother, Pugsley Adams. There’s a costume contest at work and since there’s hefty prize money involved, I’m going to bite the bullet and dress up at work. Wish me luck =)

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Love some of your past costumes - Dorothy - really love that! You could have used my dog as Todo and it would have been perfect! HAHA She is a Yorkie like Todo and every year I say I want to be Dorothy and take her w/ me in a little basket!
