Tied for Third?

We had a costume contest at work on Halloween and only 15 people dressed up. I wasn’t happy about dressing up, but figured hey, if I place in the top three, I get a prize---money. Since I have to pay a mortgage, car payment and other bills, I figured what the heck, might as well enter.

Being budget conscious, I decided to spend little to no money on my costume. The idea I came up with was Wednesday Adams from the Adams Family. I already owned a black skirt, tights, shoes, sweater and white collared shirt, so it was a no-brainer. I just needed a black wig with braids. My mom assured me all week that she had a wig I could use that she didn’t need because she was ditching her idea of being Red Riddinghood for her Halloween party. So the night before the contest, I went over to my parents house to grab the wig.

Problem. The wig was brown. I remembered I had some black spray paint, so I spray painted the wig black. Bad idea. The spray paint I used was meant for home projects, not coloring wigs. When I wore the wig the next day to work, I felt like I was getting a migraine from the toxic fumes.

I sat at my cube waiting for the judging to commence---which didn’t happen until noon or so. We all gathered in the lobby and they finally announced the winners. I ended up tying for third place. What a joke. I couldn’t tear off my wig fast enough.

I usually have a good attitude and admirable sportsmanship; however, I was pretty bumed.

Oh well, there’s always next year, right? Here’s a picture of me dressed as Wednesday Adams, inclusive of the prop she carried around on the show…a dolls head. Yikes! Also, I look really, really pale in this picture. I'm normally not that pale =)
