Last year, around Valentines Day, J and I had just begun dating. We weren’t exclusive, and much to the dismay of my family and friends, I was still talking to my ex.
We had dated awhile, but the relationship ran its course and we broke up. It was probably the worst relationship I’ve ever been in---he cheated on me, was verbally abusive, and was basically an all around loser. I only stayed with him because I didn’t feel I could do better, and because I thought that all guys were like that. Boy, was I naive.
Last year, because we were in the initial stages of dating, J and I decided not to make plans on Valentines Day. We bought each other a card, a small gift and had dinner a couple of days before the hallmark holiday.
Well, my plans for a low-key V-day quickly vanished into thin air.

On February 14, 2008, my ex showed up at my apartment with a heart shaped pizza from Papa Murphy’s in hand. He cut a zig-zag down the middle and said “This is what you’ve done to my heart.”
I looked at the pizza in disbelief. I couldn’t believe he had done that. I was sad for him that he thought buying me a pizza and saying those words would make me forgive him for everything he had done. Sure I love pizza, but that’s not a way to my (or any woman in their right minds) heart.
Eventually I cut off all ties with him, by getting back my keys, blocking him from my Facebook and from sending me e-mails, texts, etc.
It’s funny to look back and think about how things have changed so much over the past year. I didn’t think it was possible to find a loving, considerate, genuine, religious, compassionate, generous, family-oriented, driven and happy and good-looking man. But I’m lucky. I did find him and like I’ve said time and time again, I thank God every day for bringing J into my life.

ew! exes can really ruin a good day-- especially when they can't admit that something is over. i'm so happy that you've found such a great man, too! :)
I'm so glad you found J too! I had an ex I dated for a LONG time (too long) who sounds alot like your ex. When you finally cut ties and find someone who brings out the best in you, it the greatest feeling, isn't it?
I do kinda want a heart pizza though....
Yuck exes can cause such drama! I can't believe he did that! But man pizza sounds good!
I love thinking about what I was doing 1 year ago...different job, wasn't engaged, living alone...isn't it funny how so much can happen in a short amount of time?
Yes unfortunately after 3 years we did. But it has actually been really good. It was perfect in every way but just not right for me long term. BUT it sounds like you and your man are well on your way to the church!!

OMG - that photo of you and your sisters looks like somebody photo-shopped it. You and A are all sweet and conservative looking and M and M look like they just got busted out of the looney bin. All of you look cute though. :)
Whoa that is crazy about the pizza, every girl has ex horror stories, glad you are with a great guy now!!
